We Choose the Moon is recreating the historic Apollo 11 mission in real-time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of man's first trip to the moon.

This is perhaps my favorite political speech ever. Sometimes I think that, not just Americans, but the human race as a whole has lost sight of the importance of dreams and innovation. In 1969, putting a man on the moon was an impossible goal. A lofty benchmark that could never be reached. Yet, on July 20, 1969, this happened:

There is a lot of strife and turmoil in the world, there always has been. However, on July 20, 1969 all of humanity forgot about their earthly troubles and cast their gaze to the heavens above as three brave men went where no man prior to them had ever gone before. For a brief moment, all of humanity stood in awe, amazed that human passion and ingenuity had accomplished the impossible. On that historic and fateful day, man left the safe confines of our planet Earth and set foot on another celestial body.

I cannot help being a helpless dreamer. More than ever, I think humanity needs another great space race to inspire us. Will it be expensive? Yes. Will it be difficult? Absolutely, but it is something we must do. Human nature drives us to be explorers, we wish to delve into the unknown. There's an awful lot of unknown out there in space. It's about time we get to exploring it again.

The stars await mankind. Let's not keep them waiting.
